Charles Picart Le Doux 1881- 1959<\/p>\n
Charles Picard Le Doux is a modernist painter, his angular structures and the underlying geometry of many works show notably the influence of C\u00e9zanne.<\/p>\n
He was a friend of Renoir and was also influenced by his work. His palette of colors is sensual and luminous. His favorite subjects include nudes, landscapes and still life.<\/p>\n
Charles Picart le Doux attended the Acad\u00e9mie Julian and then the Beaux-Arts in Paris until 1902. He lives in Montmartre and frequents the Lapin agile where he meets Suzanne Valandon, Maurice Utrillo, and many other artists.<\/p>\n
From 1903 he exhibited at the Salon d’automne where he became a soci\u00e9taire, then at the Salon des ind\u00e9pendants in 1906 and at that of the Tuileries from 1926.<\/p>\n
The interest aroused by his first canvases led the BLOT gallery in Paris to devote his first major exhibition to him. The gallery Vildrac opens its doors to him, soon followed by many others in France.<\/p>\n
In the 1920s, Picart Le Doux exhibited in Paris at the Charpentier and Drouant-David galleries. In 1933, he was decorated with the Legion of Honor. He held many exhibitions in France and Luxembourg that year.<\/p>\n
In the years 1934-1939, he decorated part of the salons of the liner Le Normandie. He won the great gold medal at the Paris International Exhibition in 1937. He also illustrated a large number of authors: Colette, Albert Samain (Hyalis), Charles Vildrac (Book of love), Baudelaire, Georges Duhamel, Jules Romain…<\/p>\n
During the Second World War, moved to Touraine in Tours, where he decorated the prefecture and composed more than a hundred paintings and portraits.<\/p>\n
After the war, he returned to Paris in his studio on rue Boisonade. He participated in the decoration of the 14th arrondissement town hall and held exhibitions in France and abroad, San Francisco, Oslo.<\/p>\n
The State commissioned him to write Les po\u00e8tes de l’Abbaye (Jules Romains, Georges Duhamel, Charles Vildrac, Luc Durtain).<\/p>\n
He held his last exhibition at the Mariac gallery in 1959.<\/p>\n
Charles Picart Le Doux died on 11 September 1955 in Paris.<\/p>\n
He is the father of the painter Yves Picart Le Doux, the painter Jean Picart Le Doux (1902-1982) and Jacqueline Picart Le Doux.<\/p>\n
Many museums have his paintings: Algiers, Bagnols, Casablanca, The Hague, Le Havre, Monaco, Nice, Tours as well as the Petit-Palais Museum and the National Museum of Modern Art in Paris, New York, the NeWestMuseum (Hermitage, Moscow), Tokyo (imperial collection).<\/p>\n
