Marcel Joseph Henri Guillemard ( Paris 02/09/1886 – Avon 19/12/1932)
A French artist, decorator and sculptor, Guillemard established himself as the first emblematic designer and builder of the Primavera workshop at Printemps department stores. He advocated individual comfort as a luxury that should be present in all homes.
At the age of 15, he entered the Germain Pilon School of Applied Arts. This training opened the doors to the workshop-offices of the major Parisian firms. Trained in drawing and interior architecture, Marcel Guillemard took part in furniture projects for palaces, grand hotels and ocean liners.
On October 30, 1917, he was approached by the director of the Primavera workshop at the Printemps department store, with a view to taking up one of the first design positions.
Marcel Guillemard’s career was launched, and he continued to present new creations at the major annual Salons, extending his responsibilities in the name of the Primavera workshop’s principles. The official consecration of his career came in 1925, when, at the Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes, he was awarded the Grand Prix diploma: class 7 – furniture ensemble.
