Pietercelie Alfred (1878 -1995)

*Alfred Pietercelie is a renowned Belgian artist born in Antwerp in 1879 and died in Jette/Brussels in 1995. Painter and decorator, he studied at the Academies of Antwerp, Brussels and Anderlecht (1893-1900). He exhibited for the first time in 1917 with the group L’Œuvre Nouvelle. His work is characterized by a search for ‘essential’ design, often exuding a sense of peace, harmony and emotion.  He specialized in the landscapes of the Brussels countryside, the Ourthe valley and the south of France, the latter inspiring a palette of sunnier and more vibrant colors. He was also a recognized painter of flowers and still lifes. Settled in Jette in 1936, he founded the Cercle de Jette in 1938 and remained its president until his death.
