Women Birds, bronze sculpture, Jef Van Tuerenhout (1926 - 2006)

Bronze sculpture representing two women sitting side by side, dressed in a thin chasuble that reveals their chest, and topped with an eagle’s head attached by a very high necklace.

Patinated bronze “medal” for a subject typical of the painter’s graphic representations with its specific universe: an inaccessible female archetype, enigmatic, intriguing, seductive, sophisticated and sensual, all in length, like great imaginary priestesses.

Signed Jef Van Tuerenhout in the pedestal and numbered 3/20. The sculpture rests on a thin black marble base.

Jef van Tuerenhout (Mechelen, 23 May 1926 – Wenduine, 4 March 2006) is a Belgian painter, sculptor, ceramist, engraver and jewelry designer.

During his career, his style evolved from Flemish expressionism to neo-expressionism. The result is a slightly erotic and sensual style, on the border of surrealism and magical realism.
