Jug - sculpture in salted stoneware, M. Aubry

A jug with a pure, sculptural design in salt stoneware.

Long spout and stretched handle give it a majestic form.

Made in stoneware, it bears the signature of Marcellus Aubry (1909-1982), Bouffioulx. Its colors are those of stoneware: gray, beige, brown, green.

Dimensions: height: 27.5 cm; length: 44 cm, width: 24 cm.

Marcellus Aubry is the son of Edgard Aubry, a renowned potter known as the king of turners, and the brother of Voltaire, who worked in Belgium, in Bouffioulx (center). All three are members of one of the most representative families of 20th-century ceramists. Voltaire and Marcellus Aubry followed in their father’s footsteps. They acquired essential know-how by learning to carry out all the stages of stoneware manufacture themselves. They put their hands to the task, from preparing the clay to retouching it after firing.
