Jef van Tuerenhout (Mechelen, 23 May 1926 – Wenduine, 4 March 2006) was a Belgian painter, sculptor, ceramist, engraver and jewelry designer.
During his career, his style evolved towards a neo-expressionism. The result is a slightly erotic and sensual style, on the border of surrealism and magical realism. He is sometimes nicknamed the last Belgian surrealist.
He dedicates himself from 1966, almost exclusively to the representation of the feminine mystique, rendered with an exotic palette, refined and complex, bathed in light and shadow, in a sensual and magical style. He gradually creates his own feminine archetype, which frequently reappears in his work: majestic, inaccessible, irresistible, enigmatic, intriguing, attractive, refined and sensual.
His works are mainly found in private collections, but also in museums, both nationally and internationally.
