"Pêcheur d'Ostende", etching and dry point, J. Ensor (1860 - 1949)

Pretty engraving typical of the drawing of James Ensor, representing a fisherman, frequent theme among the artist attached to his country and its culture.

Signed “Ensor” in the plate, with the name “Ostend” also engraved.

A copy of this engraving is notably kept at Mu.ZEE in Ostend.

This is the second state dating from 1909 – 1910, published in “Kunst van Heden” on Vergé d’Arches paper, and included in the catalogue raisonné of Albert Taevernier under reference 118. Engraving work with a dry, etching point. There are marks of insolation and foxing around the perimeter of the work.

Dimensions: 13.4 x 9.5 cm. Frame with mat, black and gold frame, 35 x 28 cm.
